"Starting out as a freelancer" (Lecture)

06.09. 16:30 - 17:30

I would like to speak about my path as a freelance dancer (/vs. company experience) straight out of studies, where it brought me, and how multi-disciplinary, collaborative and site-specific work inspire me.

Maria Kobzeva is a Russian-Canadian dancer, performer, choreographer. She started with rhythmic gymnastics in Canada and then studied at the Vaganova Ballet Academy. After graduation, she joined SPBT Theater and toured with a wide classical repertoire. To expand her knowledge, she studied contemporary dance in Frankfurt. Here she worked with various choreographers (Paula Rosolen, Dieter Heitkamp, Stephanie Thiersch, among others) and participated in many interdisciplinary projects. She won the Alix-Steilberger scholarship and the audience award for two shorter choreographies at festivals. Her recent productions include performance "Patterns of perception" and dance-film "CTRL_R". Curious about the film world, she has collaborated on three dance films in 2019/21. She is currently a freelance artist, creating, collaborating and living in Frankfurt.

"A look into the field" (Lecture)

07.09. 10-11:30

What is important to know when you are starting an artistic activity in the independent scene? How can you realize your own projects, what is necessary for this and which networks and ins * tu * ons are there on site? As an example of a structure and contact point in Frankfurt, we will take a look at ID_Frankfurt - Independent Dance and Performance e.V. and its projects. What does the association stand for? And which projects is he currently implementing?

Mareike Uhl, dramaturge, and Amelia Uzategui Bonilla, choreographer and performer, are both active on the board of ID_Frankfurt e.V. and are currently implementing the ID_Tanzhaus Frankfurt Rhein-Main project as the co-artistic management team.

"Improvisational Matter" (Workshop)
08.09. 09:00 - 12:00

The workshop Improvisational Matter transmit Richard ́s choreographic improvisational method that explores the three-dimensionality of movement through the transformation of dance vocabulary in space, viewing space as a movement model that can be variously rotated, folded, enlarged and reduced. Multiple improvisational tools such as rotational methods are used to explore the anatomy of the body in order to improvise around a dynamic set of principles and practical tools that dancers can use to create forms, rhythms, movement qualities, and trajectories. In Improvisational Matter, Richard brings together his interests and experiences with the Contemporary Dance, Ballet and Improvisation Technology of William Forsythe and his Feldenkrais practice.

Richard Oberscheven is a freelance artist, dancer, choreographer, lecturer and DJ, studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Frankfurt am Main. For more than six years he has been shaping the independent dance scene in Frankfurt. As a professional dancer and performer, he has been working with companies and choreographers in Germany and abroad since 2013. Through his experience with diverse choreographic approaches, Richard has gained valuable experience working artistically across disciplines. His own choreographic works have been performed at Barnes Crossing Solo Duo Festival, Gallus Theater Frankfurt, Stadttheater Giessen, and Felina Theater Mannheim. As a lecturer for dance he teaches in educational contexts and institutions such as for Künstlerhaus Mousonturm, Tanzfaktur Köln, Tanzfabrik Berlin and Frankfurt University for Applied Sciences. Since completing his studies, Richard has been developing his own choreographic method: Improvisational Matter, which is supported by the funding program DIS-TANZ-SOLO.

A project by the Co-Op Dance Company.

The festival is supported by Kulturamt Stadt Frankfurt am Main, Hessisches Ministerium für Wissenschaft und Kunst, TT, DU + LU and the Gallus Theater.
